Photo Restoration Services - Things You Need to Know

By Jennifer Hoskins

You have tons of old photos that you have just discovered were stashed away in the attic for all these years. Those grandma photos are priceless to you. It is however, badly stained and faded at some places. The obvious solution to this problem is going to digital photo restoration services. Indeed that is the best choice you have to salvage all those grandma photos of yours.

Millions of people today use photo restoration to get back their old memories in perfect shape. In fact it has become a very profitable business for many services. Some of the restoration services seem to be so ridiculously cheap, that you want to edit perfectly fine photos, just for the heck of it. However, you should know by now that cheap services need not really be good enough for you.

Your photos are very, very important to you, so it is better to take note of a few things before handing them over to a photo restoration service. One of the most common schemes employed by these services to squeeze some extra money out of you is to offer extra features, by using those jargon words such as red eye correction or tonal correction and make it seem a sophisticated job.

Know this. All these so called premium features are and should be a part of the photo restoration services being offered to you. These things are not at all difficult to do. In fact, some of the things such as correcting red eye don't take anything more than a single mouse click to be done using image editing software such adobe Photoshop.

Also, most of the restoration services will most probably do all those corrections by hand, when they should be doing manually. Many restoration services employ people who have just some basic training in Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. They may not really have the expertise to do all the editing to perfection. Only give your photos for restoration to those services to those you know to have expert people at the job.

A particular photo restoration service may seem to offer to save you the job of scanning your photo by doing it themselves for free. There is really no benefit for you in that. You can do the job with your own scanner at home and it will still come out the same way. Why do you need to shed extra dollars for a job you can do yourself. You can scan them and mail it to them to do the restoration job.

In order to earn some extra money, many photo restoration services may offer a print out of the restored photos for free. The question to ask is why you need a print out of those photos if you are going to share it online. This is nothing more than a marketing gimmick to attract you to their photo services.

Even if you do need a print out a photo, you better do it using a high quality photo paper, unlike the cheap paper used by your vendor. These are some of the things that you should be aware of, to get the best deal from your vendor. Before zeroing on a particular service, research good photo restoration companies online to get a good idea of the standard rates and features.
