Preparing Photos Printed On Canvas

By Karina Santana

We are so lucky to have technology because these days we can have our most beloved photos printed on canvas looking like a work of art on our walls. Giclee or Geyclee is the less common name of these prints. Large, commercial printers are used to get the desired result onto your preferred size. You should be aware to prepare your image for maximum effect at the time of taking your photo and before you take it in to the printers on your home computer.

For greater results, you should always shoot your desired photo with the highest resolution setting on your camera. The highest the resolution of your camera, the better the picture will be. For example, if you have a camera with eight megapixels, it will give you four times the resolution of a two megapixel camera. The eight megapixel camera gives you a photo with eight million colored dots and not two million. Imagine how much more clearly defined your photograph will be, especially once canvased.

After taking your photo or photos, go to your computer and save it as a file. When it is saved, open up photoshop or any other manipulation software you might have on your computer.

Zooming onto the picture by clicking on view print size is your next step and here you should see the image at its largest size.

Most commercial printers print images on canvas at a dpi of three hundred so be sure to save your picture or pictures as a tiff file or a jpeg at three hundred dots per inches (dpi).

These steps should help with preparation of your pictures for basic canvas printing. There are also simple tutorials available on the internet if you would like to prepare your photos for art in a variety of different styles such as, Block Colour Border Gallery wrap or Mirror Image Wrap. Simply Google preparation of Gallery Wrap, Block Colour Border or Mirror Image Wrap and you will soon be on your way to creating beautiful pieces of art.

All you have to do then is send on your chosen image or images to the photo lab you wish and go pick them up when they are ready. You will be delighted with the results. They will make long lasting gifts that will be cherished and photos printed on canvas look divine in every room in your home.
