Reasons Why Your Studio Should Have The Soft Box

Photography has become a popular profession today. Cameras are growing in number in the market, thus more and more people are getting used to it. Pursuing a career in professional photography however can somehow be expensive. There are much lighting tools needed for different conditions especially if you are shooting indoors.

A soft box is just one among the many types of photographic lighting equipments. It is an enclosure, ordinarily in the form of a box, which is put around the light source to help diffuse and thus produce soft light. They are used to a great extent in lighting portrait, still life and many other forms of commercial photography.

The soft box is composed of black faces, with white, gold or silver interior and a diffuser at the front of the light. The side and back walls should be lined with an appropriate reflector. The most normally used reflectors today are aluminized white fabrics and aluminium foil. The soft box makes soft equally distributed light and eradicates glares or hot spots, which makes it very popular among photographers and cinematographers. But being easy to control is just one of the many reasons that makes it is so popular.

There is surely one soft box suited for every photographic lighting requirement. They come in various sizes. Larger light sources and closer soft boxes in relation to the object make softer light. Because of this, larger ones are employed in portrait photography while the smaller ones are used for smaller still life objects and for sensational greater object lighting.

Depending on the materials they are made of, soft boxes can be used with a lot of light source types. However, it is the user's duty to make certain they are heat rated when used with hot lights such as quartz halogen bulbs and tungsten bulbs which use high wattage. Using wrong materials with these light sources can be unreliable and create fire.

Finally, these boxes are compact and foldable. This means they can be folded or segmented for more convenient handling and storage during location shoots.
