The Numerous Manifestations Of The Color Pink

By Lori B Olson

The color pink has an interesting background. It is actually named after flowers by the same name, and dates from the 17th century, where it was first used as a noun. Before that time, the name meant decorating in a perforated pattern, as in 'pinking shears' used for today's sewing.

This color is associated with infant girl's clothing and is often a favorite as they grow older. At one time the preferred color was blue. It is found throughout the world in birds (flamingo), reptiles (iguana), and mammals (elephants, dolphins and pigs). Those who drink alcohol are well aware of gin and elephant hangovers that use this particular name. It is also famous for being used in many well known paintings and musical productions.

Universally, this color is associated with holidays and other momentous occasions. This can be love, Valentine's Day, breast cancer awareness, glamour, fairies and other things that have true and heartfelt meanings. Anyone receiving a box of chocolates on Valentine's Day, in a beautifully decorated, tinted box, is especially thrilled.

A common belief is that this color emits energy which, in turn, gives a person the feeling of love, caring, tenderness and self-worth. People wearing clothing of this shade give off vibrations of a peaceful and calm person. As the tint deepens, more energy is given off.

A bright tint gives off a feeling of high energy, fun, youthfulness, passion, and sensual feelings, which is why it is so popular with young and old alike. Softer shades bring forth the feeling of happiness, love and lightheartedness. This is a color that is very well known throughout the world.

Pink is one of the most popular colors used for stationery and envelopes. It immediately brings a feeling of warmth and love to the letter's recipient. A symbol of universal love, it makes the contents much more meaningful than those transmitted on sheets of cold white paper.
