Unique Ways To Preserve Your Photos

By Eve Canipe

Photographs are among our most precious possessions. They preserve memories and keep loved ones close to our minds and hearts. Although typical frames and scrapbooks are wonderful ways to preserve pictures, technology has given us many new and exciting ways to display our photos.

Remember the days when your mom would decoupage different designs to cover table tops or other items? Well, photo tables are a modern way to create a unique decorative display. Select one photo and have it enlarged to cover the entire table top or create a collage. Companies, such as PrintBigPhoto.com can create these tables, and in a variety of colors.

A photo collage is another fun way to showcase your family. For example, maybe one of your children is a ballet dancer. You could create a collage with a large picture of them posing in costume, as well as several other shots showcasing various dance positions. You could create a collage for each of your children, detailing their special activities. This would be an excellent decoration for a family room or recreation room. Collages generally start at 8x10, but can be as large as 20x24. You can choose from a variety of background colors to complement the photos and your home decor.

Because there are only so many spots where one can place smaller frames, why not enlarge your photos, frame them and place them on the wall. Some custom photo companies can enlarge a basic photo up to as much as 48x120. You could gather several of your photos and have them enlarged to a similar size to make a unique wall display. Another option is to have one very large photo as a centerpiece surrounding by several smaller photos.

Another fun idea is to scan or take digital pictures of your children's artwork and have those images blown up to larger sizes. These can be mixed with other pictures for a fun display, and it is a great way to preserve artwork that might otherwise fade or decay with time.

Other fun display options are placing photos on a dividing, three-panel floor screen. Some are made with slots for photos and still others are covered with ribbons where you can slide in photos and postcards. Digital photo frames are another fun idea, as they constantly rotate pictures and can be updated frequently. There are photo mugs, paperweights and plenty of other novelty photo items to display, as well.
