Wedding Cakes For Modern Brides

By Adriana Noton

When a couple decides that they are going to spend the rest of their lives together it is usually made official by a wedding ceremony and in most cases a reception. Among the major highlights of these joyous occasions are the wedding cakes. They represent the celebration of the union, the sweetness of love and the beauty of the occasion.

Their decorations of icing and different accessories make the several tiers look very lovely. They are the center of attention at the reception and the guests receive a piece after the special cake cutting ceremony which they witness. As is customary, the bride cuts the first piece while the groom helps her.

First the groom feeds her a piece and then he eats a piece that she feeds to him. This is the first chore that they will do together as a married couple and it is symbolic of their support for each other. Some people will keep the top tier of the cake and have it frozen to share with their family and friends as they celebrate the first anniversary of their marriage.

In times past, almost every bride had a white cake covered with white icing as this was symbolic of what a wedding cake was. In modern times, they are created in numerous flavors, colors and with several designs on them that are only limited by the imagination. When it is time for brides to select their cakes, many of them spend a lot of time and effort trying to come up with the perfect one.

Finding the right one at the best price even if there is a low budget is very important especially since weddings on the whole are quite expensive. Many brides will spend time looking at an endless number of cakes in the portfolio which the baker has, on the internet and in bridal magazines. They like their cakes to be personalized in some way and to reflect the theme that is being used.

The most important thing is that it is unique and special regardless of if it has icing in the colors that were selected for the theme or if it was monogrammed with the initials of the couple. Although bridal cakes are available in several shapes the most common ones are rectangular, square or round. In addition, there are several different choices and ideas which can be used to create them.

However, a square cake will feed many more people than a round one of the same size. In general, the number of guests will have a bearing on the size of the cake and if the guest list is reduced this could save some money. Bridal cakes are most often decorated with fresh flowers, silk, lace, ribbons and flowers made from icing.

While some couples like their designs to remain simple and classy others prefer more elaborate and magnificent designs. In spite of which choice is made people always have great expectations for Toronto wedding cakes. They should taste really good, fit the wedding theme and look fantastic.
