Do you have your camcorder batteries?

By Ian Fletcher

In today's fast and ever changing world the camcorder is a fundamental and essential piece of equipment that means those special moments, events and get-togethers are captured and saved forever. Whether you've bought a camcorder for recording your young family, sporting achievements or just for everyday occasions that you never want to forget this popular piece of technology is one most of us would never want to be without. So too however are the ever essential camcorder batteries and battery chargers!

Most of us will recall the terrible moment when you go to film that special event and you realise your camcorder batteries have no power. There you are poised, smiling, ready to shoot your little girl or boy taking their first steps, un-wrapping a birthday present or running across the finish line at their school sports day. Then, that tell tale sign; the red flashing light and the message that the power is low.

The best way to do so of course is to never place yourself in the position of having the wrong equipment or equipment that is not working effectively. This requires a little bit of preparation, but start now by considering your camcorder batteries and you'll reap the benefits later.

First things first though, check on purchase that your camera batteries come with the camcorder. If they don't then you'll need to buy the right make and model to match your camera. You can also opt for a generic and trusted battery brand such as Energizer. These camcorder batteries work in different camcorders, but again, must be cross referenced with make and model numbers.

Once you've made this choice and once you've got your camera home make sure you don't forget to put any camcorder batteries you have on charge. Most batteries will come without a full charge so the consumer is responsible for ensuring the camera can be fully operational as soon as possible.

If you're going to use your camcorder a lot it is well worth getting a spare battery. But always check that your battery brand matches the brand and model of your camcorder. Once you've got your spare you can set up a fool proof system to keep a battery constantly charged and ready to be used when the other runs out.

Lastly, make sure you make a considered choice regarding which of the battery chargers best suits your needs. For example ask yourself if you require a charger that works on the move and in the car. If so then you'll need a charger that has the correct attachment. It's also worth checking if you have the right connections for travelling abroad. You may need to get a plug adaptor if you want to ensure you can use your battery chargers on your holidays.

Making sure you've got the right equipment to use your camcorder means less stress and worry and with spares on hand you'll never miss the chance to capture those moments you want to treasure forever. Once you've started of course you won't want to stop and like a pro you'll be ready to shoot an ace video whatever the time, place or location.
