Lawyers And Being Independent

By Joshua Alexander

For all the injustices in the world it is the lawyers, according to this Harvard professor that helps fight for the truth. One thing lawyers need to keep in mind is that they remain independent from public opinion, their clients, and the government. One must note that the system of government is sensitive to rights of individuals and ensuring a fair process, and for lawyers to do their work; they must be independent in thought and action.

When we fail to be independent we would not only degrade ourselves professionally and impair our ability to discharge our duties to clients, but we also would not be able to engage in various types of socially desirable work whether it is aiding the disadvantaged or participating in the policy issues of the day. More importantly there are about four major types of independence that lawyers must adhere to. The types are independence in the practice of law, independence from public opinion, independence from clients, and independence from government. Due to the fact that most lawyers do not fit the old pattern of the free professional, implying the independent attorney working in a rural or small community, Independence in the practice in law is not less common.

With that, lawyers worked for themselves and had the freedom to decide what cases they would work on. Since most lawyers now can be found in law firms and working for corporations they have less freedom to make decisions in their work. Due to this, many lawyers are subjected to a lot of pressures.

People see practicing law now as a business then it is a profession. Most of the time, people are looking to reduce costs and delays, which often leads to a preference for avoiding trials at all costs. Most of the time what it all boils down to in court cases is the domination of judicial pressure or client pressure.

One will always want to reach a compromise but most of the time going to trial is what is best for all parties involved. Another thing lawyers should do is to be independent from public opinion. Then again the society is also one that gives high regard to the rights of unpopular individuals and groups and ideas, and it is the lawyer who must strive to protect them.

It is important to note that in the colonial period, the press helped whip the public into frenzy over what was termed the Boston Massacre, where British troops fired into ruckus a mob killing five colonists. During that time it was this lawyer's bravery that made him defend the lawyers and later he went on to help write the Declaration of Independence and served as the nation's second president. It was important for this lawyer that no person in a free society should be denied the right to counsel or denied a fair trial. With his representation of the British it was able to increase his public standing and make more people respect him. Here, among the six soldiers that were charges four were acquitted and two were convicted only of manslaughter.

This case according to the lawyer was one of the most gallant, generous, manly, and disinterested actions of his whole life and one of the best pieces of service he ever rendered to his country. As much as possible it is better not to listen to the public's opinion so much. Lawyers always need to remember that they have an adversarial system in which fairness depends on spirited advocacy on both sides. What lawyers need to know is how they can keep away from the desire to be liked, to compromise their independence, their willingness to stand up for their clients.

Wedding Photographers Portland Oregon: The Name in Beautiful Wedding Photographs

By Roger Gallup

What style of wedding photography do you want for your own wedding? You can choose from Traditional, Photojournalism, Documentary, Illustrative, Contemporary, Reportage, Candid and many more styles. In hiring your wedding photographer you should carefully look at their albums and portfolios. If you are getting married in Portland there is only one name to trust when it comes to capturing and translating intimate and priceless moments in your wedding. You should go with Wedding Photographers Portland Oregon.

There are four styles that are taking over wedding photography. These are Traditional, Photojournalism, Illustrative and Contemporary styles. Couples opt for these four styles for different reasons. Remember to discuss the style of the photos that you would want to be taken on your wedding day with the professional photographer that you get.

The traditional style is also called Timeless. This term is dubbed by professional photographers because of the style of capturing classical romantic poses. The photographers would spend some time in taking photos of the bride and the groom. They would usually have a list of shots for the bride and the groom to complete before the wedding. Families and friends of both the bride and the groom would also play a big part in this style.

In Photojournalism the style is focused in documenting the wedding. This is also known as Reportage, Documentary or Candid Photography. Photographers using this style would make sure to capture many candid shots. The photos would tell the story of smiles, laughter, happiness and love that took place during a wedding day.

The Illustrative style is more of a mix of the two styles mentioned above. Photographers would take more candid shots but would usually touch on improving the settings. The photographer may ask the bride or the groom to go about their certain wedding preparations but with certain improvements on light settings. The photographer then would take candid snapshots without asking them to pose.

An emerging style that is becoming very popular with marrying couples is the Contemporary style in wedding photography. This is more of an edgy type of photography with glamorous make ups involved and Hollywood type poses. The bride and the groom would be instructed to do poses that are commonly seen in fashion shoots. This style is most suited for the free spirited.

For more relaxed photographs, you can choose the Photojournalism style which is focused on beautifully capturing raw and unrehearsed moments. There are other options so be sure to discuss this detail with your wedding photographer.

The snippets of moments on wedding days will be framed and displayed in the couple's home. Looking for a Way Out of a Mundane Job? The Creative Industries is a Possibility

By James Jenkins

A lot of us get fed up with routine and the repetitiveness in our lives. Some try to shrug it off and force themselves to adapt to a less than enjoyable career, picking up depression along the way. Others respond to their true calling, refusing to self-impose a life sentence of job dissatisfaction. They begin a new focus in life: to build a career based on what they enjoy doing.

To start off, you need to narrow down your passion. It is always more advantageous to specialise in one skill, then to try and pass yourself off as a jack of all trades. Within the extremely encompassing range of fields, including dancing, acting, singing, writing and filming, it is crucial that you can demonstrate what you are especially good at. It is easier for the employer to hire several specialists, instead of somebody who demonstrates a mediocre capacity for a range of related job skills.

And where would you get your training from? Unless you have been entering and winning contests and receiving offers left and right, you might need to enhance your skill. Going to a polytechnic school is a good choice because they place their emphasis on practical training, which is what the industry actually needs. Always be suspicious about universities offering a program in "arts" because not only are they much too time consuming to complete, they tend to prioritise theories over practicality - if any. Learning on the job, such as finding an internship, is even better and employers are often grateful for your work. Think outside the box - it could be designing basketball singlets, painting murals, or writing articles.

Keeping a good portfolio is of utmost importance. An employer will only be able to judge your potentials based on your own record of your passionate activities. Videos, sound recordings and images are what they will be looking for to determine if you have reached industrial standards. A great way to enrich your portfolio is to include entries to competitions, regardless if you have won anything at all.

Networking will be your other critical asset. Far too many opportunities in the creative industries never made it to the situation vacant section, simply because they are frequently taken up by the acquaintances and associates within the job. Applying as an unpaid intern is an excellent opportunity to make a impression for those already working in the field. Otherwise, participating in clubs and festivals related to your interest is another way of establishing a network.

Know this, the creative industries is a job sector defined by stiff, passionate competition, and stories of periodical joblessness is not uncommon. Make sure you still hold another consistent employment before shifting your career towards the artistic direction. Going hungry will not help you make greater art to impress.

Occasions To Give A Photo Frame

By Helen Carswell

Many people take photographs to remember special occasions, like birthday parties, weddings, baptisms, and anniversaries. Individuals who are invited to such events typically desire to bring gifts, but may not know what item would be needed or appreciated. As such, a photo frame may serve as a thoughtful gift while providing the host the opportunity to display pictures from the party.

Retailers increasingly recognize this item's popularity as a gift and offer a wide variety of frames. Shoppers may find them in an assortment of colors and finishes, including silver and gold. They also tend to come in a variety of sizes to allow for the picture taker to adjust the photo's size accordingly.

Even more, because of a frame's size and dimensions, it may be wrapped to make an attractive present. Most frames are square and fairly flat. As such, the gift giver may place it in a box and then wrap the item with the desired paper. It may also be covered in tissue paper to protect it from breaking or scratching and then finished with a bow or colorful paper. It may also be placed within a gift bag if the person does not care to wrap it.

Such frames may be engraved to indicate the affinity for the gift's recipient. Indeed, many parents are given engraved items for their children's baptisms. The engraving may include the child's name and the date on which he or she was baptized. It may also include engravings of special tokens, like crosses or doves.

Likewise, brides and grooms may also enjoy receiving personalized frames for their nuptials. Gift givers might select to engrave the couple's names, date of the wedding, and an inspirational or Biblical quote to commemorate the event. Many gift stores indicate that, during wedding season, such items are among the most popular to be given.

Such items may also be given to families for holidays like Christmas or Easter. In fact, many parents use them to display pictures of the children or their extended families. People may show their appreciation for such a present by hanging it on their living room or hallway walls.

A photo frame has become a popular gift to give for such special occasions as weddings, baptisms, and holidays. They allow its recipient the opportunity to display pictures of the event or pictures of beloved family members. Frames come in a wide arrangement of colors and sizes and can be found at many retailers.

Beginners Travel Photography: Preparation Advice

By Max Brown

Travel offers you the opportunity to experience unique destinations, the different cultures, people as well as the landmarks of the region. You will no doubt want to capture these memories to treasure and to show family and friends that didn't have the fortune of joining you on your travels. The following beginners travel photography hints will assist you in preparing for the trip.

Most importantly, you need to not take more than is absolutely essential. Whatever you take with you, you will have to carry around and watch over. Try to limit camera equipment to just one body if using a SLR camera with interchangeable lenses. Try to limit lenses to one or two zoom lenses, with overlapping focal lengths. Zoom lenses are very versatile and save carrying multiple lenses of different focal lengths. Possibly add a digital point-and-shoot camera to your artillery to use in situations when you cant take a camera bag full of gear along. Whilst you should keep camera equipment to the bare minimum, you shouldn't be so frugal with memory cards, as you may regret not being able to take that once in a lifetime shot when your memory cards are all full.

If you are wanting to take a tripod for shooting in situations with low light, it is best to take along a mini-tripod. These fold up and fit easily into your camera bag for easy transportation and handling. Remember to keep bulk and weight down.

A durable weatherproof camera bag is essential to keep you gear protected from dirt, moisture, and extreme temperatures. It also enables you to keep all your equipment together, and to carry it around easily. Make sure that the camera bag that you choose is spacious enough for your chosen equipment, and that it will not be uncomfortable to carry around for any length of time. You camera and accessories should also be easily accessible, so don't opt for anything too complicated.

When you finally get to a scene you want to photograph, take time to compose the shot. Composition is an important aspect of photography, and no less in travel photography. Good composition will result in a great photo rather than a mediocre travel pic.

And finally, take notes about the places, people and cultures you are shooting. This will help you with sorting, cataloguing, and key-wording your images when you get back home. If you don't, you may struggle to remember interesting facts, or even where the photo was taken, as your memory of the places you visited may get a little bit hazy once you have returned home.

Travel photography: An introduction

By Bronson Schecter

Travel photography has seen a huge rise in popularity in the last ten years or so. This is because there has been a surge of affordable professional standard cameras, and so it is not just the professionals who can get amazing looking photographs of their travels. There are many reasons for taking photos of your journeys, maybe just to prove you've been there or to solidify a memory, but some have sought to do it as an art and a profession. To do this, a nice SLR will only take you part of the way, but this article will point you in the direction of the rest.

Buying and understanding a decent camera and lens is perhaps the most important thing. Digital SLRs are what all of the professionals use now, not only because of the ability to review photographs as you take them, but also because film is now seen as an unnecessary expense. Cameras generally come with entry level fixed focal length lenses which will only really permit you to take photos in very specific circumstances, so it is necessary to buy a nice lens as well.

Equipment is useless without knowing how to use it. You should spend some long hours poring over the manual and tweaking the camera settings to determine the effects of changing the aperture, shutter speed and ISO (film speed) paying attention to the effect they have on each other too.

After you got the technology and the know how you just need to travel and take as many photographs as possible. Reading about how to take photographs is nothing compared to what you learn actually out there taking them, but there are a few pointers you should bear in mind before you go. Taking pictures at midday is not advised as it results in very flat pictures; taking them in late afternoon or early morning captures those really dramatic long shadows. It is vital you always look at how you can use your environment too. If you need to keep your camera steady you should use a nearby tree or a wall, and you should try taking photos from all kinds of positions, no matter how ridiculous you look.

As with most other technical skills, getting good at travel photography is a matter of lots of practice. Becoming good at reading situations and what they require only comes with long hours trying out different things in different situations. Before you know it, though, you will be looking at the world through the eyes of a travel photographer.

Why Use Modern Slide Scanning Services

By Jennifer Hoskins

Preserving 35mm slides or really any traditional slides which were produced years ago is one of the most difficult jobs. In order that they don't get exposed and damaged, you probably have stacked them all in a store room. However, this is really unnecessary today what with modern slide scanning services using advanced techniques to scan them into digital formats which are of high quality.

When you hand your slides over to a scanning service, it is scanned and stored in one of the digital formats. Once this is done, they can be stored anywhere digitally. That can be on your PC or Mac or even thumb drives, where they will be safe and never deteriorate. Scanning technology has come a long way over the past few years and especially over the past 10 years.

When slide scanning services scan your slides, they usually convert them into image file formats. These can be JPEG, PNG, BMP or anything which is suitable. There are small differences between these formats. For instance, images, stored in the JPEG format are small in size and you can easily fit thousands of them in a small SD card, albeit with somewhat lower quality.

If you want very high quality images, which are as good as the original slides, you would want to go with the PNG format. The problem with PNG format images is that they occupy a lot of space, which can go into several megabytes. If you have a large enough hard disk storage, which is inexpensive these days, you can store thousands of scanned slides in this format.

Once you have decided to scan your slides, you need to do some preparatory work before you go ahead. If you have tons of slides to be converted, better organize them into separate groups before handing them over to professionals. Also, if your slides are very old, they might be stained with dirt, some of it tough to remove. Nonetheless, clean the slides as much as possible without damaging them.

Now, if you cannot clean the slides completely, you don't need to despair. You can find many images editing software that will help you remove the dirt specs from the pictures once you have stored them on your computer. Adobe Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro are the most popular image manipulating software around. If you are looking for some free software alternatives, try GIMP.

Finally, you might be thinking whether to slide all those slides at home using your home scanner or to get the job done from slide scanning services. The right answer would depend on how many slides you want to convert and whether the scanner you have is good enough to scan those slides into high quality image files.

However, if you want high quality images, you need professional slide scanning machines to do the job which is most often only available only with scanning services. Besides, if you have many, many slides to be scanned, doing the job at home can take days and probably will be more expensive in terms of power usage.

Wedding Photography: Simple Tips For Deleting As You Go

By Chunky Flik

Are you the type of wedding photographer that spends a lot of his or her time going back and looking at the photos just taken? Perhaps you like to know what you have and what you still need. It is fine to look, but keep your figure off the delete button just yet. An effective camera will provide you with hundreds, if not thousands of shots to take. You do not need to delete photos at this point. Rather, keep them on hand.

Why not just dump the bad shots as you go. This is a possibility, of course, but the problem is that the view finder on most cameras does not provide you with nearly enough information to make such a drastic decision. In other words, you do need to know what the finished product will look like when you look at it on a full size screen. You never know what you have there until you actually look at them close up.

For example, one way to use these shots with some type of flaw in them is to crop them down to size. Perhaps you do not like the way that the couple is smiling. This may be enough to cut out the picture. On the other hand, you could crop the photo down considerably and get a picture of their up-close hands, grasped around their rings. This could make a stellar photo your couple wants to have. There are many other ways to crop the images to improve the overall composition of them a well.

Consider the options. You could keep them for a bit more time and delete them later. It does not hurt you to carry them away from the wedding. On the other hand, if you were to delete the photos as you go, you may lose valuable pictures that you were not intending to lose. It is so easy to delete the wrong images, after all!

Digital cameras definitely make it far easier for most to wedding photographers to get that beautiful image. It is often very easy to take advantage of these benefits. Deleting pictures is not something should do on the screen. Give yourself at least until you get back to your studio to look at the pictures closer. You never know what gems you may have in these otherwise discarded images. After all, it does not cost you anything to do this.

The Fun You Can Have With A Digital Camera

By Deborah Sorenson

A digital camera can help you keep track of just about anything that goes on in your day, or happens to be of interest to you. Pictures of people are nice to have, but sometimes a photo can be a much faster way of keeping an inventory of certain items and events. Here are a few ideas to consider in keeping your electronic image maker with you.

People who are fixer-uppers could make use of a picture to help in many aspects of repairing rather complex items. Having a picture to look at when it comes time to put everything back together will make it faster to put everything back together. You can also use a photo to help you remember decorating ideas you may have seen and then use parts of them for your own needs.

Many jokes are made about airlines losing people's luggage, but you can greatly increase your chances of having yours returned to you, if you take pictures of each piece. Include a closeup of the tag where you wrote your name and address, but stand back enough to have a full picture of the item of luggage. It's one thing to try and describe what your suitcase looks like, but if you are in a country where they don't speak your language, only a picture has a chance at helping them find it.

Most people who own a computer keep it on their To-Do list to scan all those old documents into the computer. This could save a lot of space in filing cabinets. But, using a scanner can mean having to fool with the computer, too, and is a part of the reason they never get around to reducing paper into digital files. However, using your handy digital photo-taker, you can get copies onto SD cards without ever having to boot up your computer.

Emergency situations can cause a lot of commotion and confusion, and many people are too busy trying to absorb what just happened to remember that they have a way to capture it on film. If you can think to take a picture immediately after a car wreck, whether you were involved or not, the photo could put to rest what caused the wreck.

Making money is a good idea to most people, and using your digital camera you can take photos of people, places and things that other people are willing to buy for a photo on their website. Old barns, beautiful birds, even different types of livestock and be items people will pay money for, if that is what they want for a background image on their site. Anything that can be filmed and be a possible source of income.

Ranking Of The Best Digital Cameras Currently Available For Sale

By Mike Morrisson

Looking to purchase an electronic digital cameras? Searching for which is the best digital camera to purchase? Well, in this posting, we'll discuss the very best digital cameras of 2010 and discover the pros and cons of every one.

You'll find a great deal of factors you need to consider when you're buying a digital camera. These include but are not restricted to the brand, the price, the features, the build, the consumer reviews, etc. Herein, I'm putting together a list of the best digital cameras according to me. To make it in this list, a digital camera needs to be really good because I'm somebody who is pleased by just almost every other technology wonder! It has to be seriously, really special to get a mention.

So, here we go...

Nikon D7000 - Nikon is appropriate up there with Canon in terms of making digital cameras, in my opinion. This one is a testament to their benchmarks. A truly spectacular camera which has a wonderful viewfinder; the Nikon D70000 has been loved by one and all. It's slightly on the expensive side but again, the price is cent percent justified.

It is a 16.2 Megapixel camera and it also allows you to take stunning videos in full HD (1080P). There are plenty of features that it'll complete more than a few webpages. If you're a professional photographer, this is for you. If you're not really a professional photographer, but somebody who really wants to take stunning pictures, this is for you.

You'll understand what I'm referring to when you hold this camera in the hand. Its an absolute masterwork - the buttons, knobs, controllers have been positioned at the best locations that makes it easier to use. The picture quality is nothing lower than amazing. What's even better is the fact that this camera is one of the few that you could tote around when traveling. It is one of the lighter ones. I looked up for this camera's reviews online and it seems like most people are in agreement with me. It gets an average of 4.5 stars.

Canon EOSD 5D - This camera comes a close second. Actually, I'd say there's a tie between the first as well as second. This is an equally great camera and if you prefer the Canon brand, this is for you. It is a bit limited in the video capabilities though so if you're high on video, this isn't the digital camera for you. Apart from that, the image quality rocks ! and you'd love it, I'm sure. It is costlier than the Nikon's therefore if your budget is limited, choose the Nikon.

This one is 12.8 MP having a 2.5 inch LCD digital screen. One con for me was it didn't mount as a drive when I hooked up it to my Mac. I was able to move my work eventually however, I had to go through an entirely different (and painstakingly tough!) route.

For image quality & overall features, I'd give this camera a 4 start. For those other things mentioned above, such as the price, I give it a 3 star.

Nikon Coolpix S8100 - If you're shopping on a seriously limited budget, this is the camera for you. Though it's nowhere near the quality of the two I've mentioned previously, you receive what you spend on. In this case, though, you get much more than you spend for. The price is extremely low so when you keep that in mind, the quality and all the other features are incredibly great.

I'm not too keen on the body layout, though. The controls are placed in clumsy areas and also you find yourself doing stuff you didn't attempted to! Overall, this camera gets a 2.5 star based on the characteristics and the price.

How To Become A Wedding Photographer

By Charles Murray

Becoming a professional wedding photographer requires equipment, research and planning, experience, and the willingness to learn and have fun in the process. Whether the aspiring photographer is a child or an adult, following several guidelines can help attain that goal.

The obvious first step to becoming a professional wedding photographer is to obtain equipment that will produce quality pictures and learn as much as possible about the operations of the camera. The camera, while an important tool, is not the only product a photographer needs. The lenses will typically outlive the camera, so it is a good investment to purchase high quality lenses. New photographers should do research by reading articles and product reviews before purchasing equipment. It is also important to determine exactly what type of wedding photography will be done before buying new equipment. This type of investment in time will pay off when making purchases. Once a piece of equipment has been purchased it is imperative to spend adequate amounts of time practicing with the camera and fully understanding the capabilities and limitations. As conditions change, such as lighting or weather for outdoor photography, photographers should be able to adjust the camera settings to accommodate the new surroundings.

Wedding photographers need to build solid foundation of not only portfolios, but knowledge. This can be done through careful research and planning. Young students can often have access to high school courses on photography. While they might not specifically study wedding photography, the general knowledge obtained is just as valuable. Photography workshops, classes and courses, and opportunities to speak with and learn from local photographers can be found through many community education offerings. Some towns and cities will host amateur photography exhibits where average hobbyists can be connected with professionals in their areas and gain mentors. Libraries and book stores are other great sources of information pertinent to learning more about becoming a wedding photographer. Exposure, composition, lighting effects, and camera settings can be studied via books before even purchasing or using a camera. Beginning photographers should also not rely on computer software to produce quality pictures, but should instead learn how to take pictures that of high standards and simply highlighted through the use of technology.

Once a new photographer has done research and purchased a few basic pieces of equipment, it is time to gain some experience and make contacts in the photography field. Young students can volunteer to be school or club photographers. Those out of school can find opportunities to become free-lance photographers for local newspapers or non-profit groups. Many of these will not be paying work, but the experience and exposure can be priceless if a career in photography is wanted. Perhaps an established wedding photographer would be willing to take on an apprentice, where he or she has the benefits of an assistant and in exchange will provide tips and techniques to the amateur.

Throughout the learning and foundation building process the new photographer should strive to learn from his or her mistakes and find ways to improve. Amateurs can use this time to discover what type of wedding photographer he or she would like to be, such as classic or contemporary, and find ways to develop a personal and unique style. Wedding photography requires solid foundations built on research and experience, accompanied with a passion for the job and all that it includes.

Simple Tips For Wedding Photographer's Back Up Support

By Chunky Flik

As you consider your first or your 101st wedding photography project, it is important to have the necessary back up plan in place. Every photographer needs to have this plan in place if they have any hope of making it through a difficult situation on the actual wedding day. The good news is that with a few well planned and executed wedding photographer tips, you can easily overcome the most common, and even the most challenging, of circumstances.

Tips For Planning For The Unknown

You have no way of knowing what could happen on the wedding day. It could be a controllable problem or something you have no ability to foresee or predict happening. The following tips will help you to plan for some of the more common wedding photographer problems.

- Have a backup plan planned for poor weather. The weather does not cooperate often and for anyone who may be considering outdoor shots, having a few backup locations is quite important. Select locations that you know well or that offer the beauty and glamour of the outdoors, although they are indoors.

- You should plan for your needs on the wedding day. For example, make a list of all equipment and supplies you need to take with you as the wedding photographer. Keep this list on hand and add anything you may forget over the course of a week. Soon, when you have done a number of photography events, this list will be set in stone.

- Plan a route for getting from place to place. Although the famous "just follow me" plan may work when going to locations unfamiliar to you, it is best to have a well laid out plan in place ahead of time. You can use free software online or an in car GPS unit to help you with this process.

- Try to attend the wedding rehearsal. This event is not one where most photographers go, but it can be one of the best things to do so that you can familiarize yourself with the layout of the locations, the people involved and even work with the bride and groom on their particular needs.

Making a few plans ahead of time will save any wedding photographer from problems on their wedding day. Although there is no way to plan for any problem, many times you can rely on these back up plans, and the bride and groom will appreciate you doing so.

Showcase The Photos At The Wedding Reception

By Chunky Flik

Did you know that you can take full advantage of the wedding reception not just as a way to get word of mouth advertising but also as a way to showcase the beautiful pictures you are taking? One tip that you may find useful as a wedding photographer is to bring along your laptop if you are using digital cameras. Digital cameras provide you with the ability to see the photos right away. This can actually serve as a type of advertising for you, while also adding something magical to this very special day.

With the use of your laptop at the reception, upload some of the photos that you took over the course of the day. With a bit of priming and proper placement, you could create a fast slideshow of those photos. They can easily flip through on a table by the cake or even by the wedding gifts. Guests can come over, watch the slideshow and react to the pictures (hopefully in a good way!) While this may not be something that you thought about before, it is an ideal way to showcase yourself as well.

Before you do this, take into consideration a few more things.

- Do get permission from your bride and groom (or whoever is paying you!) to provide this service. You do not want to insult others or to surprise them with something they do not like.

- Upload only those shots that will be appreciated and thought to be appropriate. In other words, you may not want to select all of the intimate ones to put in the slideshow.

- Use your down time in other portions of the day to set up the slideshow. You do not have to have a stellar laptop or even have extensive software to pull off a great looking slideshow.

- Do invest the time in approving slideshows. Not all of the photos you took throughout the day will show your best work. You want to look great in the eyes of those viewing the photos.

- Do place your business card by the laptop and allow others to pick it up. This is the type of word of mouth advertising you need.

Wedding photography tips often leave out the ways that you can advertise your services on the wedding day. Be prepared to provide your business card to anyone who asks, but this is not the place to ask for business.

Wedding Photography: Handling The Family Photo

By Chunky Flik

One of the most important wedding photos for many couples is the family shot. This is the photo where the mother and father, the sisters and brothers and anyone else important to the foundation of the family come together in one or more shots. Unfortunately, as a photographer, this can also be one of the most difficult of photography shots to take. Locating everyone and getting everyone on task is difficult, to say the last. As you consider all of the options available to making this process simpler, the following tips may help you. Getting Everyone Together

There is no required area for you to pull the family together for this shot, but if everyone is available at the church, do it there. This is the ideal place because it will allow you to get everyone into the shot in a great setting with great natural light, in most cases. In addition, no one has taken off their attire nor have they had too much to drink. While those shots can be a lot of fun, for a formal wedding shot of the family, you want to try to get it in sooner rather than later.

The second thing to consider is how to get everyone together at the same time. One of the best ways to accomplish this is with a family member. Choose someone who is not the bride or groom, on either side of the family. Have both of them come together to you when you are ready to get the family photo taken. You can have the bride and groom select this person before the wedding for ease. This person can then be the person in charge of rounding up everyone that is supposed to be in this photo. This way, as the photographer, you do not have to worry about learning who is who and trying to get everyone on task.

In addition to this, be sure to allow this person to be in on the plan. Often, those who should not be in the photo will position themselves in them. The person helping you should be able to step in and pull those extra people out of the photo.

Although it may seem like such a simple task, the family photo is rarely that for the wedding photographer. This wedding photography tip can help you to get through the event easier and accomplish the right shot.

Wedding Photography: The Need For A Second Photographer

By Chunky Flik

Many wedding photographers do not want to have two photographers on the shoot if they can help it. After all, this may decrease the amount of money you can make. However, it is best to have two in many circumstances, especially in any circumstance where one person is not enough to handle the job professionally. Having a second photographer may be one of those tips that you do not want to hear, but consider why it is so helpful to you.

Why Two Photographers Are Important

Not every circumstance will require the use of two photographers. In many instances, having just one is enough, such as a small-scale wedding without a large guest list or numerous locations to visit. Here are some instances and reasons a second photographer will be helpful for.

- Having two photographers will mean that you have to move less during those intricate moments of the day, such as during the ceremony and during any speeches that take place. This opens the door up to more shots and provides less distraction from you to the guests.

- Having two photographers during the wedding shoot can help you to get both formal shots as well as the candid shots that make the most positive impression on the guests.

- As a wedding photographer, you will have a variety of guests approach you with requests. This is not possible to handle if you are the only person who is taking photos. It helps to take some of the pressure off of you.

When do you need a second photographer? Not every instance requires them. If your couple expects a large number of photos to be taken, or they are interested in a variety of shots, ensure there are two photographers available. You may only need a second photographer for part of the event, such as at the wedding ceremony. This can help to cut down the costs while still providing you with plenty of pictures for the event.

Keep in mind that pleasing the customer is one of those wedding photography tips that you cannot ignore. To do that, you may need to have a second photographer by your side to help. Talk to your clients about the need for two photographers and the limitations that come from having just one, if there are any. This allows you to tailor costs to be better suited for two professionals being at the event.

The Perfect Shot Is Simple When You Have The Perfect Background

By Chunky Flik

Finding the right background for each of the formal wedding photos you take is never easy. In fact, it can be one of those challenging aspects of this day. It is not that there are no great backgrounds to be had, but there are often problems that pop up with those locations throughout the day. It could be that a server walks through the background of the shot. On the

other hand, it may be that the electronic equipment for the band has made its way into your shot. How can you prevent these problems and walk away with great looking shots?

For one, get to the location prior to the wedding day and scope out the various wedding photo background options you have. You may not realize that there are so many options to select from. Here are some tips for selecting the right backgrounds for the shots.

- Look for backgrounds that are somewhat out of the way, especially when there are many people around. For example, after a wedding, most guests will head outside to wait for the bride and groom to come out. This is an ideal time to do some formal interior shots at the church.

- Look for areas that are less crowded or uncluttered. For example, you may find that at the reception, the front of the building is just too crowded for outdoor shots. There are people coming in and out. There are signs and other elements that take away from the beauty of the surroundings. Instead, try a view from the back of the location.

- Visit each of the locations you plan to take photos at and choose locations that provide at least a workable level of light. Choose shaded areas for photos that keep the direct sunlight at bay.

- Look for good backgrounds on your own. The bride and groom may not have any idea where they can go to get photos. Take them to an art district, a professional building for stair shots or to a park setting.

The background of the wedding photos is an important part of the total composition of the photo. Do not overlook the ways that you can improve your backgrounds so that you can provide your couple with even more beautiful photos to enjoy. Backgrounds are an important part of any collection of wedding photos. Wedding photographers are often left to make the most out of situations if they do not plan in advance.

Trick To Get Things Going For Wedding Photographers

You may be a new wedding photographer. This may even be your first gig. You likely have one camera to use and you are not even sure it is the right one. How are you supposed to have two cameras for the day? It may seem like one of those wedding photography tips for someone who is a professional, but in fact it is a tip that everyone needs to take. Having a second camera will help you to avoid some negative situations and it may give you more depth. Even if you have to borrow from another photographer, it is a good idea to have the camera if it is at all possible.

Why A Second Camera Matters

There are many things that you can do to be a better wedding photographer, but you cannot predict every situation, nor have a backup plan for everything. Anything you can do to reduce the risks of actually losing the job or not being able to fulfill your duties is worth planning for. That includes having a second camera. Here is why.

- Use the second camera to help you to get a different look. A good idea is to use the second camera with a second lens. In fact, you should set up the camera with a different lens.

- Consider using the second camera with a wide angle lens. This really gives you a new perspective to work with that many couples will benefit from. The wide-angle lens is perfect for candid shots and for those shots in difficult locations.

- Set up the other camera with a longer lens. If it is possible, choose a camera that has a 200mm lens or similar. This will really give you some ideal shots. Lenses in the range of 70 to 200mm are often the best bet for weddings, when you are using two cameras.

Of course, having a second camera (and all the gear that goes with it) can be heavy. Still, it is worth having two options especially when there are so many situations that warrant the use of that second camera. For example, during the ceremony, you probably want to use a wide-angle lens for some shots and the longer lens for others. Having two options is well worth it. Do not go out and buy a second camera just yet. A wedding photography tip like this can really change the outcome of the shoot.

Wedding Photography And Diffused Light

By Chunky Flik

As a wedding photographer, you do not need to be told how to accomplish tasks like taking the right pictures or getting light right. However, it is important that you perfect one skill to provide your clients with the very best finished product. That is to learn to diffuse light properly. You need to learn how to bounce a flash or to diffuse. Without this skill, you may struggle in some situations to get the right shot at the right time. The light changes throughout any circumstance of the wedding day. You need to stay in step with it.

The good news is that once you perfect the ability to diffuse light, you are less likely to have trouble getting the right shot. Consider the fact that many churches have a light level that is not conducive to photo taking. It is very low. Some churches do not allow you to use any type of flash photography, which can be limiting and that should be something you address with your couple ahead of time.

In situations where you are able to use a flash camera, you need to determine if you can bounce the flash. Consider the surroundings carefully. For example, if you bounce the flash off of a colored surface, it will add a touch of that color to the photos in a colored cast. In some situations, this is not appropriate. You may need to buy a flash diffuser to soften the light considerably.

Whenever you are unable to use the flash, you will need to have a fast lens that has wide apertures or (and in some cases and) you will need to increase the ISO. In these situations, it may be a good idea to use image stabilization if you have that ability.

As you can tell, it is important to scope out the surroundings in advance so that you know what type of equipment you need to have on hand. If you do not plan to do this, be prepared with your full arsenal of options. Keep in mind that you are not just planning for one space, either. You will need to scope out each of the sites that you will be shooting shots at. Wedding photography done right will mean understanding the importance of bouncing the flash and diffusion. Polish up on these skills so that you shine, and that your photos do not!

More Megapixels, better camera?

By Andrew Brown

When buying digital cameras one of the important specifications to check is the megapixel count, with more pixels often comes a better digital camera.

Megapixels are each a million sensor pixels, each of which senses when it is hit by photons of light and builds up information about what colour that pixel of the image should be during the exposure. The maximum resolution of photograph a camera can take is restricted by the size of their sensor. The information from all of the pixels is then combined to create a digital image of small blocks, each with colour and light information. Cameras that have too low a megapixel count will show this in their blocky and undetailed images.

The megapixel count for a given camera can be calculated by multiplying the height by the width of the maximum size image the camera can take and alternatively a rough idea of the maximum resolution can be gained by doing the reverse.

There are advantages and disadvantages to very high megapixel counts though overall more is better. Negatives include the performance of the digital cameras in low light conditions where only a small number of photons will hit each sensor pixel, resulting in some randomness in the relative colour and brightness of pixels and visible as grainy 'noise' in the image. Higher counts also mean larger files are created that take longer to process, limiting the number of shots that can be taken in a given time and how many can be stored on a memory card. Noise can also be caused by adjacent sensor pixels interfering with one another, creating patterns of speckles that are most visible in the darker parts of images.

The sensitivity to noise varies from camera to camera, some deal with it better than others making it a good idea to look at sample images or try digital cameras for yourself before buying.

Greater numbers of megapixels allow higher resolution images to be taken which gives better detail and, for less experienced photographers, can be better than a lower megapixel count as it allows images to be cropped, reduced in size, to improve the framing of the subject without losing the detail that makes the photo look professional. How many megapixels you need also depends on what you will use the photographs for, any photograph that will be expanded to display a section of it or displayed in a larger size such as a large print or poster will benefit from having more megapixels in the digital cameras sensor.

Manufacturers use megapixel counts as a marketing tool as consumers perceive them as wholly advantageous so cameras that are higher up in a range of products will have higher megapixel counts and this will be matched with better hardware and lenses.

If you are buying new digital cameras a higher megapixel count is a good indication of the overall quality of it and where it is placed in a range in comparison to other cameras. It is a positive feature of a camera to have a higher count but should not lead a buyer to ignore the other features a camera has and compare them between models.

This could also be applied to the ever developing smartphones, as manufacturers seek to develop phones by adding increasingly capable cameras. As with the 8 megapixel camera on the LG Optimus 2X.
