How To Make A Huge Impact With A Small Card "Business Cards For Photographers

By Clwyd Probert

When starting with any small company, one of the first things that you'll need are business cards. They are the way you can spread the info to friends and family that you have started a new venture and they present all of your new contact information. Many new photographers make the gaffe of going to the local printing shop and getting them to design business cards using one of their standard templates. This is a bad idea.

Neighbourhood produced cards will look just like everyone else's. They're going to have not character and usually the standard of the paper and printing is average at the very best. As wedding photographers or as any other kind of shutter-bug, your image and how you present yourself is critical.

There are 2 rules you will need to follow to make sure you don't mess things up:

- Find the best quality paper available. This is something you will give out to a potential customer, you wish to convey the impression of your exacting standards.
- Find an amazing image. Here is your opportunity to show off your skills and have someone carry it around with them, find an image that actually represents you and the message you are endeavoring to get across. Never present a standard image or brand from a variety of other photographers designs.
- Make your contact data clear and easy-to-read. They should be black text on a white background. Include e-mail, cell telephone and your web address.
- Keep the front page design straightforward "ideally only one image covering the whole card.

Tip: In the United Kingdom there's a great online business card company called moo.com (yes truly) "they produce great cards which are excellent for photographers as you may have a different image on each card. Ie you can order a box of 50 cards with a different image on each card, so you get to tote around your complete portfolio.

In summary, go for the best quality and ensure your photos stand out.
