Choosing The Right Maternity Photographer

By Adriana Noton

When a new child is being brought into the world, it is a very special time for a mother, a couple, or a family. Many people want to get portraits done at this time to forever immortalize the special moment. It's important to take many different things into consideration when looking for a maternity photographer.

Some families will have many children. Some will have only a few. Some couples may have only a single blessed child. Regardless of how the family looks on the outside, inside there is always love, and it's important that a photographer be able to capture that love right from the start. Professional and discrete studios that respect a couple's style and needs are critical.

A good photographer needs to have a passion for the artwork they will be creating. Photographing pregnancy is a chance to capture the love a couple has for each other. Sometimes it means seeing into the family dynamic and grabbing the shots that show how tight and close and intimate a family is. Done respectfully, these photos can last a lifetime and make a family come closer together.

It's easy and understandable that a woman might get intimidated if she is looking at photos of other pregnant women. They are often done in a way that makes a woman look overexposed. Because women often become self conscious during pregnancy, a good professional will need to help a woman feel relaxed and comfortable during her photo shoot. She needs to be made to feel she is helping to create an artistic photo that can be hung in any room of a family home.

Sometimes a couple might want to have more than just the mother of the unborn baby in the maternity photo shoot. It's very ideal to have the father or husband involved in the picture, as this captures the love that made the baby in the first place. It's also nice to consider any other children. Even family pets might be welcomed into the photos. The studio needs to take the mother's wishes into consideration and help to capture the specific dynamic of her family.

People should plan to have their maternity photo shoot done sometime after the twenty-seventh week of pregnancy. Most will agree that it's not until after this time that a woman's true beauty in pregnancy will start to shine. The more belly she has, the more there is for the photographer to capture.

Studios that do maternity photos will likely also do newborn shoots. This too must be planned in advance. Newborns are best captured in all their wonderful glory before they are ten days of age. They curl their bodies a certain way that comes across well in pictures up to this point. After ten days, they're also more likely to develop their infant acne or begin to have colic.

Having a baby is an incredible time for the mother, the couple, and the family. Everything changes steadily, love and passion evolving into long lasting and enduring commitments. Capturing such feelings is important, and finding the right Toronto maternity photographer who will feel blessed and honoured to be a part of the process is so very important.
